Nearly four acres of land worth over 2 million dollars were acquired by Fairfax County in 2000 through a developer's proffer. The Oakton Community Public Library will serve as a cultural focal point and help preserve the village character of Oakton.

Planning and design of the >17,000 sq. ft. facility was begun after a bond funding the $7.6M cost was approved by voters in November 2004. Construction is scheduled to begin in spring 2006 and to be complete by mid-2007. A fact sheet on the library can be found at: http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/library/branches/oa/

The Friends of Oakton Library, Inc. was founded in 2001 in response to the community enthusiasm for creation of the Library. Between now and the library's completion the Friends will work to fill its own shelves with fellow friends and to sponsor library-related events. When the library opens the main activity of the Friends will be to facilitate community involvement and to support the library's ongoing programs. More information and an application form.
